Strasbourg - France
If you're interested in architecture, you could follow one of several marked routes through the heart of the old city center . The tram can be useful for saving your legs, and taxis are easily available. There's also the peaceful boat trip around the center. Strasbourg and Alsace is one of the few areas in Europe that produces both notable wines and beers, and it also is home to some of the finest cooking in France. There are strong German influences here, giving the cuisine a different character from typical French fare. History has played a part in this, and it's a pleasure to see the past so clearly reflected at the table the popular dish choucroute, for instance, is really the same thing as sauerkraut.
Strasbourg has a rich cultural life, with its own orchestra participating at the renowned International Music Festival in June; in late September through early October there's the annual Musica, a festival of contemporary music. Opera, theater, jazz and dance performances are held year round and are widely advertised. In summer, most tourists are drawn to the nightly folklore displays of music and dance held in some of the old city's most picturesque squares.
